Derby has definitely exceeded my expectations in the show ring notching up some amazing wins. So far he is a Best in Show (All Breeds & Specialty), multi Class In Group and Class In Show winner, winning Baby In Show at his first outing and gaining his first Challenge and Best of Breed from Puppy Class. Then, to my amazement, we won the Junior Dog class at the 1st Border Collie Nationals in April 2006, receiving a lovely critique from the judge Mrs Heather Turner from Scotland:

“…very attractive head, alert expression, nice eye, good ears, good front, lovely neck and shoulders, good length to height ratio, nice strong rear, good croup and tail set, really excelled on the move, very sound dog, very promising.”

To top off his first Nationals class win Derby in 2009, at the 2nd Border Collie National held in Canberra, has gone on to win his first BEST IN SHOW over an entry of 332 border collies!!! He is the only dog to have placed first in his class at both Nationals. We are undoubtedly very proud of our beautiful boy and wish to thank Mr Ross Green from the UK for the honour in such lovely company. Thankyou must also go to all that have helped us both on the day and in the last 6 years. And wow the critique:

"This stylish dog epitomizes the perfect balance between sheepdog and show dog, he has glamour without exaggeration. He is an overall excellent type, correct moderate bone and size, has all the glamour but with the construction and amount of coat needed to perform a day’s work. Classically marked B/W with a lovely head of good proportions, eye is of good shape and placement, good ears, giving overall kind expression. He depicts a masculine yet refined Border Collie. Neck of good length and strength, angulation is well balanced front and rear with good croup length and angle. He is sound out and back, with a coordinated action. In gait he has minimum lift in front and rear and an effortless light footed action, the more he moved and his handler relaxed the better he got, displaying a good overall shape and balance. In the challenge for challenge dog he simply commanded the award both standing and on the move. In the challenge for BIS I expected him to lag after a long day but he continued to perform, standing with regality and moving with purpose and ease. I was really splitting hairs on my decision but eventually I selected the male for his overall unexaggerated balance, shoulder and upper arm. Challenge Dog and Best in Show."

His first two introductions to sheep also look promising with him showing natural instinct.

He’s such a pleasure to own, even though he can be a handful! Derby’s a big, cuddly teddy bear that just loves everyone.

It is with great excitment that Derby has gone for a holiday over to Victoria with John and Joyce Sullivan of Kennoway Border Collies! He joins them to be campaigned while I am busy with my two legged babies. So far they have had huge success notching up his first All Breeds Best in Show, numerous Best in Group and Runner up in Group wins and winning Best of Breed at the Adelaide Royal 2009, and then getting Group 3 at General Specials!!

Derby finishes the year as No 1 Border Collie All Breeds in the Dogzonline Pointscore 2009!!! What a year!!!

We are so proud to announce that Derby has gained his Grand Champion!! Thankyou to everyone, especially John and Joyce, for helping us achieve this amazing achievement with our beautiful boy. To say we are proud is an understatement!!

With the introduction of the new title of Supreme Champion in 2012 Derby needed one more Group win to qualify. With the help of Natalie Woolley he achieved this, winning that needed Group!! What an amazing journey this wonderful dog has taken me on.

Wow what a way to end his career! Derby, at the age of 9, shows at his last Border Collie National 2014 and again wins his class, Veteran Dog! Thankyou to judge, John Ritchie for a tear worthy moment for me and recognising Derby in a lovely line up of quality Best in Show winning Dogs. I'm proud to say that he is the only dog to have won his class at all three Nationals, not a bad achievement.
